FAQ's - Students

Are there prizes?
Yes, click here to see what they are!

Who are you?
See the About the Organizers page.

Why should I compete?
Aside from some impressive prizes, you'll get real-world experience from this-put it on your resume, and mention your effort and what you learned to your friends, your co-workers, your parents, and even in a job interview!

Who should I contact to get started?
Start with your college captain - he or she can help answer all your questions! To figure out who your college captain is select your school from the drop down menu above.

Do have to follow a particular format for the Marketing Plan and PowerPoint presentation?
Yes-in order to simplify the task for non-marketing people, and to assure that everyone is judged fairly for their ideas, concepts, message and themes, we've put together a Marketing Plan Outline and PowerPoint Template for you to use. You will be judged for following these guidelines.

How many people can be on a team? Is there a maximum or minimum size?
Teams can be from one to five people.

How many judges will there be? And who are they?
There will be five judges at the college level, and seven at the regional finals. The judges at the college level are local alumni, community stakeholders, business owners, etc.

What will happen with the results of my plan?
The best messages and themes from the competition-college-level and regional-will be rolled into Rochester's "Made For Living" community marketing campaign, so that it better speaks to YOU as a college student or recent college graduate.

Who do I talk to if I have questions?
Start with your college captain. Don't know who this is? Select your college from the drop down menu above.

Do I have to be a student?
Yes-the members of your team must all be part-time or full-time undergraduate students matriculated at one of our area's colleges. We cannot allow graduate students to compete given their advanced education and expected advantage over undergraduates.

Is there an entry fee to compete?
No! But teams will have to provide five printed copies of their Marketing Plan and their PowerPoint presentation (in addition to electronic copies) for judging.
